A long time ago had the same experience with a high school friend on a toy run. By the time we got to the staging area I told him the run etiquette and to not cause issues for other riders. Well he did make a lot of people nervous and pissed a few off so we kicked her down a gear and never saw them again, done deal.

I'm talking about the situation where there's a trip coming up (like Daytona) and you'd really rather not ride up with a slowpoke. You just know they are going to slow (ride your way) you down, either because they ride below the speed limit, they like to stop too often and for too long ( don't stop), or because they are a crappy rider or a new rider.
It's difficult to say no when you're going to the same hotel (say " hey! You finally made it??? Then wink LOL). I had the misfortune of riding to and from Daytona a few years back with the slowest guy on the planet. 20-25mph below whatever the posted speed limit, he nearly got us killed on I-95 going on the on ramp at 50 and nearly running us into a truck. I stayed with him and his friend for about 20 miles, stuck behind semis, then I couldn't take it any longer and rode home alone ( welcome to my world).
So I just need a nice way to say I'd rather ride alone or with a couple others that ride similar to me.

I'm reading and laughing at lots of the responses. I didn't have anybody in mind when I wrote the original post, I gave Slowpoke as an example, he hasn't shown up to ride with my group for a couple years anyway.
But you know how it is, your discussing a long ride or an overnighter with some buddies and a rider that you like, but who is not very good, asks to join in.
