In the summer I have had pretty good luck with mountain bike gloves. These in particular, but YMMV.

TourMaster has a good variety. Also reasonably priced. JR

Any glove with a velcro wrist strap will work. Do you really think those Costco gloves, gardening gloves, are going to save your hands. They are going to slip right out when you wipe out. The first thing you do when fall is use your hands from not having your face eat the pavement. A good set of gloves will set you back 150.00.

As the saying goes, "you pay over 20k for a bike and get a cheap pair of gloves" (Add sarcasm here)

Old, oil-stained Wells-Lamont deerskin work gloves. Worn until holes appear, and then cut off the worn fingertip parts one-by-one a little at a time until they become completely useless. I got 8 1/2 fingers left in this pair.

I wore those cheap Costco gloves for 14 years as a motor cop. Never an issue with them. Would like to hear your personal experience with them.

Vizcarmb is correct, put your hands down while sliding and loose gloves will get peeled off your hands. Done that been there.

I wear Napa gauntlet style gloves -- can't protect too much against road rash if you should get into that situation
