Leaving Nashville on the 20th and stopping in West Plains, MO, Topeka, KS, and North Platte, NE. Camping in Gillette until the 27th, then moving in to our spot in the Buffalo Chip. Any must do's for the trip? Don't know anything about any of the places I am staying...
From experience I can tell you there is not a lot to do in either North Platte or Gillette. On your way from Gillette to Sturgis, see Devil's Tower. When you get here in the hills, see Mt Rushmore, maybe the Badlands, ride Vanocker Canyon and of course experience the Buffalo Chip. A lot of tourists like the Crazy Horse carving, but most locals in my experience don't care about it at all. There is a ton to do here, others will be along to point out other stuff.

That could not be more true. I was a totally new rider. I only had 2500 miles under me when I went for the first time. The sheer number of bikes, and riding needles highway 2 up were a total stress drain on me.
The second time that I went and everything after that, has been a piece of cake.
I enjoyed people watching at night downtown.
Rochford is a good ride.
There are so many places to see and things to do in the Sturgis area during Bikeweek just do the best you can and plan on return trips to finish seeing the rest.
Hullet on wednesday of the rally...pig roast, its off the chain, also a good day to go to devils tower and stop at the stonehouse saloon and sign the house....mad fun.
