Default Tires: How old is too old?

Need to put a front tire on my 2014 FLHTK

I've got a Dunlop I bought new, never used, and have had in the garage for awhile (indoors) with a date stamp of 1312 - 13th week of 2012 I believe.

Chuck it or use it?

Tires have a lifespan of five to seven years from date of manufacture, even if they are never used.

That tire is still pretty fresh. The little nipples on it... squeeze them, if no milk comes out it is still good.

I wouldn't trust anything older than 4 years old riding on the highway.

Dunlop recommends replacing over 6 years. You are fine. Just do a visual check.
I just replaced my front tire, that had 28k on it. I bought it in 2011. My rear wears out every year.

Eh, on a sport bike I want my rubber to be fresh and sticky because dry rubber would slide on a corner with my knee dragging the ground (extreme lean angle). But I couldn't imagine why the rubber would need to be fresh on a cruiser. So as long as there are no dry rot cracks, I'd still use it.

Too much cheese.

But seriously, I once found an original Indian tire at a swap meet. It had the "Indian" script right on the side, and still had great tread. Put it on my chopper and ran it for two years, then sold it to a friend who actually had an Indian. That thing had to be 35 years old at the time. Of course, I was young and still immortal also.
