Vivid black paint and scratches
Man, only had my bike a little over a month and it scratches like no other! One of the kids must have ran their shoes across the back fender and has a good scuff mark already. The tank scratches easy too. What a bummer. Shoulda got a lighter color. When I get the custom pain I will have a lighter base color. Wish I woulda waited and got Pewter or yellow.

All my bikes have been black, but I know how you feel. It's just the nature of the color, but there is something you can do about it. First, for the kind of marks you are talking about, nothing off the shelf isgoing to get rid of all of them. What I do is once or twice a year I take the bike to a local detail shop and have them buff out the paint, costs me $40 and all my bikes have come out of there looking like new. I'm not talking about getting them to detail your whole bike (too expensive IMO), just buff the paint. These guys do amazing work andI have my bike back in a couple of hours. I'm sure you can find someone in your area that does the same quality work It's well worth the money.

Profesional buffing is definitely the base. I just did my whole bike with some Meguires Scratch X and it works great on minor scratches and swirls. The trick to the stuff is to keep rubbing until it looks like it is all gone from the area. Then wipe with a clean cloth.

Let's be honest, though...it's not just the color. It's like there's one thin layer of clear coat onmine. I scratched mine to the primer (at least) using a paper towel. Granted, there could have been a grain of sand on it but down that deep?!!! Well, about 20 wax jobs later it's barely visible. The groove of the scratch is still there but the color has been filled in.

Hmm Scratch X will help you on the black..work it till its almost gone from the spot ur using it on...rub well...in a round motion
After you have used scratch X....get that bike WAXED
WAX again if u want a few layers of wax
Most of all don't grip the gas tank with your legs.. (its not a horse or mule..)
Don't wear floppy jackets that hit the back fender...a zipper can cause heart ache
Make sure what ever you secure to the bike is actually secure above any paint surface
Don't ever wipe ur bike with anything DRY....

I can't comment if you have some deep scratches, but black can stand up and look good if you know how. (I don't claim to know)
I was at the Anacortes Oyster Run this past October and saw someone's black, Evo powered EG, with what appeared to be original paint. I was stunned how good it looked, and that bike had a fair bit of miles on it. Someone knew what they were doing.

My skull train paint is vivid black..
Its not that much harder to make black shine deep without scratch or swirl marks..
in fact it can be better.. you know when there is damage to ur bikes finish...
