just trued to make service appt. not happy
[:@]well its goona be 85 in northern illinois on monday so i just called to make an appointment for my 1k mile service on my 07 sportster. and theres a 2 week wait!!!!!!!!!! and the guy was a dick on the phone tellling me how they have 40 bikes waiting and only 5 techs and they sell 250 bikes a year so you do the math.
So they expect me to find someone not working on moday at 9 am to follow me there and bring me back home so i can get the cage. Wait about 2 weeks so they can do an oil change and a recall!!!!! ridiculous.
is anyones dealer like this??[:@]

Don't feel bad. I made an appointment once, showed up for it(9 a.m.)and they wanted me to leave bike for 2 - 3 days so they could get to it. I'm looking at the book with tech names and assignments and I'm only one on the list for the tech for that day.I tell them no damn way I was leaving bike. Couldn't anyway as it is my way to work. They fixed it right away.
Since then:
1. Have bought manual
2. Have bought M/C jack
3. Do as much of own maintenance as I can.
If I was you, I'd get manual, change oil & do routine service and make the appointment for recall and take it in then unless it's something critical which could get you killed.

This is one of the main reasons I do all of my maintenance. Get a service manual, and a motorcycle jack. That's assuming you already have a good tool collection.
I would however, recommend having the 1,000 mile service done at the stealer. Just a good final check for anything missed in the manufacturing process.
Is there another dealer you could ride to? I ran into the same problem last April for my 1,000 mile service. I found a dealer that was about 50 miles away, made an appointment for a couple of days later, rode the bike over and was there when the service department opened. They had me back on the road in about 2 hours.

Make the appointment and do the oil change yourself in the meantime, just make sure you tell them THAT has already been taken care of.

Today is Friday and you call to get your service done so you can ride onMonday? And you're upset they can't do it? It's not Jiffy Lube man. You have to realize that when spring comes and the bikes come out of hibernation the dealer is going to be very busy.Sometimes the dealer bashing gets a little silly.
