RE: just trued to make service appt. not happy
There a a few N. IL. dealers who offer a "first come / first served" service on Saturdays. I belive that Heritage HD in Lisle is one. Just find out what time they open and be there earily. Done deal.

I'm not much of a wrench myself, but thank goodness I found an independent who does my services for a lot less than what the dealer wants AND will do it while I wait. Look around, this can't be the only one.

Maybe I'm spoiled because I live in a large market (9 dealerships within 75 miles) but 250 new units annually seems awfully low given the volume of bikes HD sells - at least in theUS. I'd be interested to know what the median sales numbers are for US/Canada dealerships.
My primary dealership is not considered a mega store like Daytona or Barnetts - in fact, as far as facilities go, it's currently pretty much a hole in the wall but based on the number of bikes my salesperson moves a month, I'm guessing they average 100 new units a month.

That's true Tow, but that is the average yearly sales for a dealership.........not counting the big guys ie;Daytona etc.

Hate to break the news to him but 250 bikes a year isn't jack s***.
...and they sell 250 bikes a year so you do the math.

250 bikes per year @ $3000 gross profit per unit (big V-Twins) plus boutique items, parts, service - not a bad living. Also, not too many H-D franchise territories remain available long - assuming they are available at all.
I've been into boats and bikes for most of my adult life. Spring is a rough time to get anything done. FWIW, my dealership says it takes 4 hours to do the 1000 mile service properly and takes about two weeks for an appointment. If I was up against the miles, I'd change the fluids myself and them let them check everything else and do the recall.

Back in August of 06 I called my dealer to get an appointment for 1k service. I asked, how busy are you? He says, very! He askes if I bought it there. I say yes. He says, is tomorrow ok? I said, yep.
