Actually Art101 didn't work very well. The clear bulb shined through the smoked lens as a smoky gray color. Which you can guess would happen. So I am thinking I will just need a brighter red bulb.

Did you read the reviews?
I'm guessing you didn't.
A clear bulb will work (not very bright in the day time) or a clear LED bulb.
The only problem with a clear bulb is that it's not legal. The taillights legally have to shine red (found this one out from a cop that I ride with!) I bought a redLEDbulb for my bike, that took care of the color with the smoked taillight.

If you take off your red tail light cover, guess what you will find under it? A clear "bulb" is legal if it shows red through the lense.
I don't have one, I just read the reviews of the product and was trying to help someone out. If a red bulb shines amber, then I would guess a red LED will be a brighter amber. A two dollar clear bulb to check and see if it looks red at night is cheaper then buying a red LED bulb and finding out you have a bright amber tail light.

I had a stock clear bulb from the red stock lens and tried it and it shows a smoke color through the lens. That is why I asked for input becauseI knew that a taillight has to shine red otherwise I am going to have to deal with getting pulled over. Thanks cryptoboy for the answer I was looking for.

Well I don't have one and don't know anyone who does. Just going by the reviews;

Looks great with the clear LED bulb, and allows the rotation to be seen clearly with the rotating led bulb.

Was this review helpful to you?YesNo

Looks great on my '02 Fat Boy. It's kind of hard to see the running light in the day light. I would suggest getting an LED bulb.

I installed the J&P smoked tail lighton my 04 FXDX and used a Jam Strait Super Red led tail light , shows red OK , not as big as the original taillight and does not have any light showing on the license plate, I installed 4 blue LED lights on the plate and now I have a blue aura flolwing me like a ghost down the road.
