I always thought that homosexual men, who by definition are attracted to, and want to attract men, adopted some of the extremely masculine stereotypes and fashions. Ie outlaw biker, construction worker, cop, who else was in the village people?

GA can actually make a pair of chaps the most unfruity thing you will ever see. But she is right, between the Village People and the whole S+M scene, they have a weird connotation on guys. I guess it has something to do with the fact that they "frame" the "franks and beans" and the tookus... On a lady with a nice heinie? Excellent! On a curmudgeon? Not so much...
I wear em in the winter, but mine have finally gotten scuffed up, and look like what they are, a piece of protective clothing... but I still take em off as soon as I get off the bike.
