Whenever I want. \\; Usually weather related and \\;they do reduce fatigue on long rides.
I take them off before walking away from the bike unless its a quick stop at a Gas station.

Wow.. you folks wear them as rain/cold gear and I wear them as protection. I wear mine whenever I get on the bike.

+1 I always wear mine. \\; Course it rarely gets THAT hot here in Western Washington, and this year its been colder than normal. I still wear them in 80/90 degrees.

A guy showed me a pair of his chaps after he fell off his bike at 80mph. If he really did hit the pavement going that fast, I want the protection he had. I just don't want to be seen with ugly protection.
