Question So what would you do? (Purchase related)

Posted over a month ago I had finally made a decision on a new bike. 2015 Ultra Classic\Amber Whiskey. At the time my regular dealer did not have the bike in stock, and ordered me one. Initiall delivery\incoming date was April 17th. It didn't arrive from the factory on that date, and as of today, the only other info I have was\is an e-mail from the sales manager stating there was an expected ship date of 4/21. (Yesterday).

Anyway, I'm not an idiot about things, but it's been like pulling teeth to get any more info from the dealer. No word yet as of today on delivery either. I live in PA so the bike is being shipped from the York plant which is only 80 miles from me AND the dealer, LOL.

Here's my dilemma. I've bought my last 3 bikes from the same person\dealer. I like them. Get along with them etc., but frankly, this is starting to frustrate me. (The fact that I can't get any better info). What is causing that is there is another local dealer with the bike I want in stock, although it does have the upgraded\6.5 stereo. I've spoken casually to them and I can probably get that bike for the same deal as the other place.

Thoughts? Would you wait it out, or say screw it and just get the bike that's sitting on the floor elsewhere? I know I should probably just be patient, but it's riding season and I'm also trying to NOT rack up miles on the current bike I'm trading.

If the other dealer has the bike you want, I'd go that route. Or call the dealer you've been waiting patiently with and tell them unless they sweeten the deal, you're going with the other dealer who has it in stock.

You purchased your last 3 bikes from the same person/dealer...you like them...get along with them, etc....The dealership doesn't control when the factory ships (not their fault there is a delay). Patience.

Plus...did they order this bike specifically for you? If you go to another dealer and buy a bike you will probably hurt
your relationship with the dealer you like, get along with, etc...just a thought.

I don't neccesarily agree with his. I bought two bikes from my local Dealer and bought my Heritage from their competition 30 miles away and bought my Sportster privately. Did not hurt my relationship at all. They got my business on two bikes. One of which was a 14 Ultra Classic for $24K.

I say get the bike where you can get if you cannot get a solid date on a bike you ordered after a reasonable amount of time. Good people will understand. My dealer did not have a used Heritage. They did not have the bike i wanted. They did not blame me for getting it elsewhere. Now I have good relationships with BOTH dealers.

You might talk to them about a dealer transfer.

They're only 5 days late. My dealer just took 8 days to get 3 screws ordered and installed. Hang in there a few more days.

Yeah, I get that. But you would think ordering a 25K plus bike that comes from a fairly well run factory would allow you to get a bit more precise delivery date, LOL. (It's also been nearly 6 weeks since the initial negotiation).

Thanks for the thoughts on this to all though. I think sometimes it helps to type this stuff out just to get it out of the system. As I'm tied to work for the next few days, I'm thinking of giving the dealer yet another call and seeing if they have any info. If I have nothing solid by Friday, when I'm off, I may visit the place that has it.

As someone mentioned, I know about the dealer transfer possibility, but frankly, I would think my salesman, knowing I'm frustrated, would be doing some occasional searching for me.

If you want it now and don't care about the dealership you do business with, get it somewhere else and start shopping there.

I buy where I can get the best deal. Not interested in dealership friendship.

I'm not quite for sure why ya'll ordered it unless you ordered it with some specific things added to it, which I don't think you can do anyway. Why didn't the dealer look at a dealer trade to start with? (maybe there wasn't one close at that time)

anyway, I would sit down with your dealer and discuss it in detail. Tell them that there is one at the next dealer. give them a chance to see what they can do. Plus I would think that they could make a call and see where the bike your ordered is at (shipped, still in assembly, not even started). Communication is the key. and I'm not saying you haven't been in good communication, maybe you have.

I do understand your situation. I would have a hard time waiting my self.
