Your riding position will change depending on the height of the apes.

That alone will affect your riding. Now how well you adapt to the change is up to you.

First set of apes I went with was 12" KST Kustoms and I was wondering the same thing. Didn't change a thing for me and a whole lot more comfortable. Now 13" Reaper bars and much more comfortable than the KST with less wrist angle and much closer together end to end.

Had a friend with apes on his Low Rider who had no problem hustling it through the twisties...but that was what he was used to. Might take you some time to adjust. Try it...you can always change 'em back. Remember...you'll have less weight over the front tire (one of the reasons for clip-ons and leaning forward...weight on the front tire) and you'll have moved your CG backwards. Take it easy until you adjust...

For me, apes made the bike handle easier in the curves; low speed handling is a little tougher, but you get used to it. It just depends on the style of bar and how they're set up.

It depends how higher they are and your over all position on the bike. I have 16 on mine. I keep them pulled back. They're below my shoulders and kind of fall into my hands. My overall handing, slow speed and grinding through the turns, is way better than with the stock bars. But that's my set up, not yours. It's all about setting them up for your comfort and riding style.

I've got 16" apes on my Springer and I feel that it is easier for me to throw my bike into the corners than it was with the stock bars it came with, it just takes a little adjusting too is all.

Apes look good on certain bikes; usually Softails or rigids. I think the drags look much better on a Dyna. But that's me.

Only thing you'll lose is a bunch of self respect.
