This is my first Harley I came from draging knee on a croch rocket. My apes are a good 5-6 inches above my shoulders when I'm sitting streight up. I have no problem throwing my bike around. Even at 120 and yes it's a lowrider with apes

Yup just a small learning curve with the apes but you can throw it around with no problem, way more comfortable too.

It's more at low speed. like from a stop sign when turning. The front end kinda feels like it flops over end the bike wants to fall. But it don't. It's a little weird But if you just ride it like any other bike you don't even notice after a while. It took about a week to get use to it.

I put 12" apes on my Dyna a couple months after I bought it, and recently got some 14"s. The 12's sit just below shoulder level and the 14's are pretty much even with my shoulders and I have never noticed any adverse affect on handling. I've never had apes that put my hands way above my head so I can't comment on their handling.

Maybe... if you actually care about what other people think.

Correct, I do things for what I like not for what others like.

Uh....just wondering what self respect has to do with what others think?
While there are those that put apes on for comfort the vast majority put them on to look baaad. Then they put a bandana bank robber style to add to the totally bad ambiance.
Makes no difference to me except that self respect is what keeps me from doing the same.

I'm assuming that you're smart enough to understand that self respect can be tied to other's opinions of you. Maybe you're not... who knows? Me personally, I don't buy things to please other people. You're not the one paying for it, so I don't give a **** about you or anyone else thinks.

Either way, I don't think anyone here really cares about your opinion.

Take care!

Not to add fuel to the pissin' match fire, but back when I bought my FXDX it came with flat bars. After riding it awhile, I started having some back and shoulder pain. An old biker-dude I knew gave me a set of what he called "baby apes" to try; which fixed my problem. Through each of the several bikes I've owned since then, I've never returned to low bars.

Apes are something you either like, or not. Try them if you like; there's certainly no shame in changing them back if they're not for you.
