Default New guy...

New guy here, (real new, no bike yet).
I am taking a riders course in June, and will be getting a new bike soon after. I am leaning towards a Sportster 1200L. My main concern is this... Do most of you feel buying a brand new bike for a first timer is a bit obsurd?? Should I look for a used bike? I'll probably have a lot more questions, if I start to get annoying let me know..

Thanks in advance,
Nate

Welcome. I don't think buying new is a bad idea if your sure of what you want. Check them all out between now and then so you can be sure of which model you want. Good luck!

Welcome---buy a cheap used bike, ride for a while---develope your abilities--then decide what bike is right for you. Just my $.02

I can see both sides of it. I bought a new bike when I first started, but I went on the larger side so I wouldn't feel like I'd out grow it in a year. If you're not sure of the model you want, then I'd suggest used. You don't want to buy a new bike that you decide is not right for you in a year and end up losing moneywhen you sell it. At least a used bike, you won't take as big a hit.

Alot depends on funds. If money is not too much of a topic go ahead and buy new. However, two things. One is that odds are you will drop your bike or do other damage in your beginning stages and two, there's a likelyhood that your knowledge of motorcycles isn't such that you are that certain of which model of bike you want.

So, if money is a concern I would buy an older, decent condition metric that I can drop a few times and in about a year sell it and not loose too much money and then buy the bike I am more certain I want.

By the way - - welcome and good luck.
