Heel shift / toe shift
#61
I had my own version of it on my prior bike, the FXDBI. It came with the standard mid controls, and I put highway pegs on the frame. Used to rest my feet on the highway pegs, and use the heel of my boots to shift and brake. Would use the lip of the sole on the heel to shift up, and of course the bottom edge of the heels to downshift and brake.
One day I'll change up the forward controls of my FLHS and maybe rig up something to get her heel shiftin' 'n braking.

Adjusting yourself and your attire to suit your bike is one way to look at it. Others prefer to adjust the bike to suit themselves and their attire.

solve the room issue by installing an extended heal shifter, I believe the one I installed was plus 2 1/4 inches in length and it now is positioned just off the back of the floorboard. Love having the entire floorboard and have gotten used to the heal shifter so it's second nature now.

Since I have multiple bikes...most of them not Harleys...I never bother with the heel shifter on the Road King. I'll probably just take it off. No need to retrain unless you want to for some reason.
