Georgia already has already taken care of this problem. If you sit at a light through what would have been two cycles and the light doesn't change you can go ahead and take off.

I'm an LEO and have the same problem at lights. Just had to bust a light riding to work this morning. My department says we must write tickets at accidents only, otherwise it's our choice to write. Normally, I wouldn't write the ticket, unless something else came to light. Being an LEO requires a certain degree of common sense, something not all LEO's possess. As far as fighting the ticket in court I would say 'go for it' because in Tucson's liberal municiple court you would have a good chance of getting out of it.

As a leo and a "biker" I have had the same thing happen to me so NO, I wouldn't ticket you. Personally, I have never ran the light in those situations. What I do, is make a right (yea..from the left lane, so sue me), and then make a u-turn to finish the "left turn".

I live in Georgia, and I had this problem a lot. First off, to sit through two cycles can take awhile, some of the lights remain green on the priority road, and only change when a vehicle approaches from the side road. Is there a time limit on this law as well? There is one particular light (not far from th HD dealer) thatwould not change for me. There are no lines cut in the road where a wire would be, nor do I see any cameras or other devices on the lights or around them. I hear the nay-sayers on the forum all the time, but I bought one of those magnets, and it really works for me. I get left turn arrows first time every time. go figure.
As far as running them, its too much hassle trying to prove your point to a judge or even a non-riding LEO (the riders wouldn't even pull you) its time consuming, and if you look like me (a real biker) you don't stand a chance in front of a judge. And I'm not ready for a haircut and shave because of a stupid red-light.

Yea we have the law here in CO where if the signal will not change you may proceed, there is no set time limit to wait it out tho, but I would use common sense and give that light a significant amount oftime to change.

Give your local traffic engineer a call and tell him where the two lights are he can change the sensitivityand help your cause. As a motor officer if I saw you waiting I would not write you but give the advice as above in this post.

That's a relief. I always wondered what was the best way.
