Default Dent in tank

I am in the process of moving from TN to WA. Fortunately I'm in the Navy and movers come and pack everything up then load it on a truck. Unfortunately, today as they were loading the truck, one of the movers bumped into a bookcase which they had moved to the garage which then fell over and put a good 6 inch crease-like dent in the gas tank. I took it pretty well... I mean, stuff like that happens. I could see myself doing something similar, so I can't complain too much. It helps that I'm covered and it'll get fixed. Just out of curiousity, anybody have any rough idea on how much it'll take to fix it? It's on a 2003 FXSTI. I really have no clue. Thanks.

Depending on if the bike is a stock color or custom painted. Me having a vivid black softail, I'd be checking out the "for sale" section or ebay before having the tank repaired. Might be cheaper that route.
Good luck and sorry to hear about your "accident".

Yours being a 100th anniversary bike, I doubt you'll find much in spare tanks sold on ebay or craig's list. Now, I have seen some but usually they were the full set of tins and priced high. Being in the Army and knowing the "moving" stuff, file a claim and have them replace it at the dealer closest to your next duty station. The military will cover the damages from the movers. Don't waste too much of your time and energy looking for a cheaper way out. Uncle Sam will get his back from the clumsy movers, don't you worry.

I had some dudes car door fly open (Hi Winds)into my tank, and just chiped the paint. Mine is 2 tone, with pin stripes. It hit it in the worse place. It chiped every color there was, in teh size of a dime. They (insurance co) decided it bebetter to replace the tank. Total cost? $800.00 by the time ya add in the emblems.

I got a nice dent in my tank when I let a lady I work with take it for a short ride. Since I'm planning on getting a custom paint job next winter, I just pasted a "support our troops" ribbon over the dent for now.

I had a Honda 919 whose tank had a dent. I was told that it would be best to replace the tank vs. fixing it. The tank for the 919 was around 600. I imagin a HD tank would be more

What type of decal is on the tank, and what color is it? I have fixed tanks on HD's for as little as $250. Some of the decals and factory dribble is hard to get. Remember they don't want you to repair it, they want you to replace it, so they can get paid too. Post a pic, of the tank, there are a lot of painters and other capable people on this forum that can point you in the right direction.
