We found a nail in your tire . . .

Last time I dropped a bike off at the dealership (for recall work) the new service writer went over the whole bike with me first. She had me turn on lights, signals, tap both brakes, she checked tires for wear and nails, check for scratches on tins and chrome. I asked her what this sudden attention to detail was all about and she said new policy so that customers can't claim that 'it was working properly when I brought it in' or 'that scratch wasn't there'.

I had/have the same coverage - $0 co-pay with HD's (CNA) ESP w/ Tire & Wheel Coverage.

Isn't that funny. One of the service writers was giving me grief that the guy that quoted me the price to swap out my outter primary didn't quote enough. Brought it in for the 10K service ('14 Ultra Limited) and so we talked about it and I said "charge me what it costs, it's fine". Funny how now that the bike is there they call me first thing to tell me they found a nail in my tire . . . but "your insurance will cover it less a $50 deductible". Funny, that's the price difference we were discussing earlier.
I know it's a common tactic to use when your insurance is about to run out to get new tires, but now I'm wondering if it's not also a tactic to grab a few extra bucks. Yes, I know tires get nails, and I know they can not leak, but it just seems weird by bike sat for about a month, and in the 6 mile ride to the dealer I got a nail. After 3 new bikes from another dealer/same salesman I bought this one from a new dealer after the old guy insulted me on price and trade-in. Do I have to worry about these guys now? Jeezus . . . .
It's aggravating . . . and who knows, maybe there WAS a nail in the tire.

Well, why do that when his wheel plan will buy him a new tire?
