I didn't care for them at all until I rode my buddies sportie one day. Not sure what the height was but it was above my shoulders. Apes with forward foot controls feel just awesome. I like them on the scoots with the smaller front ends. Some guys get too crazy though but hey, it's there ride and they have that right. If I could find a set ofapes that would compliment the thickness of the Road Kings front end, I would get a set. All the apes I have seen would (in my opinion) look puny (small diameter) on a Road Kings front end.

I've had 16 inch apes on every bike I've owned - never riden for more than an hour on anything else, so they're comfortable to me. the best way to describe the apes is a quote I heard: "ape hangers are like fake ***** -- no matter how big you get, you'll always want bigger" -- I agree. If you have apes and like 'em - you probably have wanted a little bigger! My bike came w/drag bars (which lasted about 1 day) and I felt like I was on a crotch rocket! Apes seem easier on my back, I prefer cruising instead of flying at 80 mph, so the handling issue isn't a big deal to me. Great thing is, we have choices - those who like 'em are kind of like a mini-family inside a big tribe!

Back when I was riding with the club I traded bikes with a west Texas President for a couple miles between stops andhe rode my Shovel with the apes pushed all the way up
and I rode his basicly Stock Dyna and I could not wait to switch back asit just felt weired

one time when I repoed one of my my bikes with stock bars on it I rode it for 1 day before I resold it

My apes absolutely ruined me....I can't see myself ever having another bike without them. I love my 16's on my Standard. You either love em or hate em. For me I love the old school look and feel.It almost like us riders with apes have our own little community .

Large diameter Apes on my Road King, very comfortable - have 2 screwed up shoulders, elbows, wrists and hands (and pretty much the rest of me, all metal and rods)from a bad car accident 2 years ago, and these are the best bars I've used on my bike, ever-I can ride all day and night when everyone else is ready to call it quits, and I'm 50! Been riding since the dirt bikes as a kid. I also love the drag bars on myWideGlide and FXST. I've got a few other bars that I swap around when I feel like changing the look and feel of my bikes, along withdifferent seats. Then I see other people's rides and get more ideas for my bikes - they're all good!!

I have always liked the looks of apes. I also feel that it is a personal thing. Some like drag bars but they tend to bother my back and shoulders. I went with 16" wild1 chubbies on my bike and the ride is more comfortable for me. I think that apes give the bike an old school look. Mine come to about my shoulders and I haven't had any problems with circulation, hands, arms or shoulders at that level. I feel that each to his/her own and whatever helps you to enjoy the ride more is what counts.
