I have never had apes but am under the impression that if you keep them below sholder hight or at, they can be comfortable.

I've seen some bikes that have them that look like crap and then some others that just look cool as hell(I like the look of them on Anubiss' bike). I've never riden a bike with them on so I couldn't comment on the "feel" but I do have some circulation problems in my right arm from various injuries and my hand falls asleep with my stock Fatboy bars so I can't emagine what would happen with apes.

I saw an HD parked near my house. Huge apes. I was walking, so I didn't have my bike, but I looked around for the rider. Hmm. There were dozens of stores and hundreds of homes, no real chance of finding the rider. So I walked off.

A few moments later, I heard the thump of a twin cam, and what flies by me is the hottest 115 pound woman, stretched out by the enourmous apes, hair blowing in the wind. It was like in City Slickers when the cowboy said he fell in love and never ever talked to the woman. In fact, I never even saw her face.

Bottom line, I LIKEY!

I just put on mini apes from the street bob on my superglide. I love the way the bike feels and handles now, there is a difference. The front end feels totaly different and I think it handles better. It may be just psycological who knows, not only that it feels like you're making a "statement", why, I dunno, but to me it feels more like a harley. But i suppose it depends on the bike. I cant see apes on an ultra glide, but ya never know. But I really like the difference. It is also more comfortable to me, my arms just plop right on the grips without having to use any muscle movement/tension to reach them, thus more relaxed riding position Just my .02 worth.

there has to be a reason why they are illegal in many states and it isn't cause they look stoopid. hands should not be above your heart for a long length of time. look at the number of time you see riders shaking their hands to get circulation back at stoplights. you need to be able to make any manuever without taking one of your hands from the bars, hard to do with apes.
