Am I wrong about letting people pass me in my own lane

RE: Am I wrong about letting people pass me in my own lane
I don't think I have been in such bad traffic that a bike can't pull into the passing laneto pass me or any other vehicles I am following in thenormal fashion. I don't know why they would have to share my lane to get by me.

This isone of thereasons, I hate the BRP, especially on weekends. I live about 25 minutes from the thing and rarely ride on it, maybe once a year. Nearly every weekend that I have been there, I have had some idiot on a crotch rocket pass me either in my lane or on a double yellow line, even when I was riding at or slightly above the speed limit. One idiot is bad, but a pack of them is worse. I have had them pass me at waaay over the speed limit when I didn't even know they were there. Sometimes, you can't even hear them coming and are startled when they blow past your sometimes just inches from you.

I normally hug the right and let them go through. To be honest, if they're riding faster and they pull up on you and you don't move they get impatient and reckless. Probably more so than they would have been if they passed you.
Just let them by. At least then you know where thay are and what they're doing.
I had a rocket blaze by me the other day, in my lane on the interstate - and I was doing 83ish mph. Never even saw him coming because he was blocked from my LOS by a suburban-like SUV. He probably didn't see me either until he was damn near in my clutch side. Scared the crap out of me.
Had a JSO squad car scare me like that once also. Came up on the left and flew by me. Never even saw him coming (or if I did he was just a pair of headlights back in the distance in my mirror check).

Passing someone in their own lane is downright stupid, disrespectful, and dangerous as hell! No way would I pass someone in their lanenor would Iallow it to happen to me. If they can't wait to pass safely, f*#k 'em. Ride safe everyone. Jr.

I think it's a two way street (no pun intended) The passer should have the courtesy to wait until either
a) he has a legal way to pass
or
b) you wave him by allowing him to pass.
Having said that, if you're on a twisty road that bikes tend to frequent, I think you (or anyone riding) should extend that same courtesy to someone that wants to go around. No one said pull over and stop... just pull to the right a bit and wave him on.
Some HD riders won't do it. I think that's just being ignorant. If it's safe for you to pull a bit to the side for a moment, why ruin someone's else's ride just cause they want to go faster.
Respect for other riders goes a long way.

Your a very wise man Mark, this is the only way it
should be handled period!
Any other way that people want to do it is just being
an azz hole IMO!

I/we/wife and I ride the Blue Ridge mountains all
year round most every weekend and on the weekends
we ride alot on the BRP as well as other roads. Out of
70,000+ miles we rode in 2006 in the Blue Ridge
mountains probably a 3rd of those miles or more were
on the BRP and I/we have NEVER seen anything like
what your talking about on the BRP.
The thing I see the most of on the BRP is Harleys going
10MPH under the speed limit in groups holding up
traffic for miles just being plain azz holes and not pulling
off in a pull out or moving right to lettheirbrothers on
other motorcyclesby or anyone else for that matter.
Other then that I never see motorcycle related problems
on the BRP on weekends! Maybe because I treat all my
brothers on all brands of motorcycles with the respect
they deserve and I expect in return!
My ride pace is my pace on a ride, your pace is your pace
on a ride and if the two should meet we should help a
brother out,not try to ruin each others rides!

RE: Am I wrong about letting people pass me in my own lane
I know of two serious bikeaccidents on the BRP in the past couple of years. In one crash, one bike rear ended the other. A young woman was killed.
