Horsepower OR torque? I would rather see torque numbers, but can't have one without the other.

You left out one item on your BMW's, gearing.Things just do not add up.

Torque is where it's at. Very few engines make equal HP and torque. Buicks GS was a perfect example, little over 400 HP andn over 500 ft/lbs of torque. That's what you call a tire shredder.
Then can't you explain why the Buell XBRR with TWICE the torque of its 600cc rivals had a hard time keeping up on the straights in AMA Formula Xtreme. Shouldn't that too be a tire shredder compared to the other bikes?

You can think of it this way: Would AMA let Buell compete with the XBRR if the huge torque advantage really made a difference? Of course not. The rules are there to make for good, fair racing. AMA knows full and well that the higher torque will not be an advantage on the track.
I'm sorry I didn't make myself clear, Ididn't mean to imply that a Buick GS was any form of road racing car. But for aall around FUN car to drive around town and show off, give me low rpm torque over high rpm HP.
The only reason a Buell can come close on a road circuit is by using torque pulling away for corners not top end speed.
I always loved HD because of the way the power feels vs flat out performance. Buddy had a 750cc kaw 2-stroke 3 cylinder, that would blow off my SG like it was standing stillway backin the late 70's. To this day I don't regretriding aHD over Kaw.

So you're implying that BMW geared the 730dA so wrong that it affected performance severely? Come on now. BMW mated both cars with an appropriate set of gears given their different engine characteristics. Of course you could gear the 730dA for better acceleration, but that would compromise top speed. And the thing is that the 730iA could also be geared for better acceleration.

Why don't you just look at the actual physics instead. It's described in various articles on the net, the simplest being the one I posted in the beginning of this thread. Your theory that torque is what matters for performance just isn't supported by physics, therefore it's not true. Unless you want to argue that the classical physics is flawed...
