Service record search?

Service record search?
Is it possible to find any previous service record of a used bike? Dealer said they didn't have any records of service. Wondering if another dealer might have serviced the bike and if the records were online somewhere?

My guess would be that anything related to repairs that is recorded on a national level would only be warranty work. Another source might be if the bike was in an accident and the insurance company paid for the repairs that would be available from CarFax.Anything beyond that and you'd have to have the actual repair orders from the previous owner or the shop(s) that did the work.

Each dealer has its own records. Found out when I bought a used bike the PO said was serviced elsewhere and asked at the local stealership. Rather than try to hunt down the records (at least one dealer the PO mentioned is out of business), I took it to an Indy for a full check-up. Got lucky, the bike was in great shape.

No,, common service records aren't going to be out there.
Monkeyboy22 has it right, insurance claim records are available per individual VIN#'s for a fee,, but only if a claim was made.
Think about it,, I might just have issue with any Dealer or Indy that put's my personal information out on the WWW (including the VIN),, and actually what I do to my bike, what, when or where,, whether it's change the oil or repair the starter is personal.
I agree that Damage from an accident should be disclosed but that's not always the case. A bike could have had only minimum coverage at the time of an accident and the owner is on his own hook for repair.
I don't know what it's like in your area, but around here a conscientious private seller will many times say;
"I have all the service records/receipts",, It's a nice thing to have, but a Dealer will only say; "It's been fully serviced" and in my experience the Sales guy will play dumb about any other repair even if he knows about it.

This is what I would really like to verify. Today I am getting all the fluids changed because dealer integrity is suspect. I don't believe any fluids have been changed due to the coloring of the oil and the noise in shifting, in spite of them saying it was all done when they accepted it on trade.
I'll start my own records today and go on from here.

You wouldn't find any records of service performed, if the po did all the work himself. The bike could be in great shape, and the dealer wouldn't be able to tell you anything. I'd be suspect of any dealer that didn't change the fluids on any bike they put up for sale. That tells me , they will tell you anything you want to hear, to make a sale. But if you change the all fluids yourself now, at least you know when they were done.,,,
