Vertigo has a good point: moleskin will help with the blisters on the back of the ankle and top of foot until they fit right.

Water works well, but I prefer the slower method of using a leather conditioner (I use Obenauf's) and some thin oil to penetrate into the seams. If you choose the water method, use a pair of women's nylon stockings under your socks, they will save you from a week of blisters. I used the leather conditioner and moleskin for a month before my White's broke in.

Too bad Doc Martins are made in China now instead of the UK. But actually I don't consider Docs a good riding boot at all. No real reinforcement... besides a steel toe can conduct cold !!

I like the styrene toe guard in Cruiserwork boots, doesnt conduct cold and is pretty damn solid.

I know what you mean... although they might be the right size, the leather is very stiff. The only way to remedy that is to wear them. Oiling them up to help soften the leather helps to quicken the process. I have done theinside and the outside onone particular pair of bootsI had...they were really stubborn to break in.That helped quite a lot.

I have found with each new pair I buy, the best thing is to get them wet. The leather willstretch a bitwhen it's wetor well oiled and fit your foot and ankle much better. There are always the big bandaid type bandages you can wear in the mean time to help lessen rubbing or chaffing.I likethe sound of the oil method, what kind of oil and where do I get it?THANKS

Before you know it..they will be your favourite.

never had to "break in" any boots I've ever bought. They either fit or they don't. If they don't, I don't buy 'em.
