Default Veteran's Ride

Today we took a short Veteran's ride sponsored by the local HD shop, and a couple of other businesses.

Went from the HD shop to the local VietNam Vereran's memoral that is here in town, then went to a Vereran's Memorial that is in a park by the river. Had a small ceremony at each place then went back to the HD shop for treats.

What made this ride memorable was that two WWIINavajo Code Talkers were guests of honor, and we got to meet them. We also got a book of the history of the CodeTalkers thatthe one's that were there autographed.

On the walk from the parking lot up to the Vietnam Vets Memorial, Arleen was asked by one of them to walk arm and arm with him. He wasbeing escorted byaNavajo Nation Beauty Queen and said that he wanted to walk with two pretty women instead of just one. All in all a really good day with great weather.

Regards,

Bill

A couple years ago I partisipated in a WWII event in Farmingdale NY. I met two veterans paratroopers from the 506th PIR of the 101st Airborne. Bill "Wild Bill" Guarnere (featured in HBO's Band of Brothers) and Jack Agnew. Jack was a pathfinder and demolition sabateur with an elite team within the 506th called the "Filthy Thirteen". This was the group that the Lee Marvin film "The Dirty Dozen" was based on.
Well Jack Agnew, who was pushing 80 at the time, kept hitting on my wife. In a good natured way of course. Nothing very serious. But at one point he literally pushed me aside as we were leaving the Airpower Museum hanger and took my wife Colleen by the arm. The two of them went strutting along as if they were on their honeymoon! I must confess, if Jack were 21 years old instead of 79 I think I may have had a serious problem. Got to love those old vets. They are truely "living history".
