Default replacement keys

Anyone ever had to get a replacement key. I have lost my second key and I was wondering if they make a new one by my vin number(like they do for cars) or what. Any idea on cost?

When I bought my bike the salesman took the rubber part off the key and wrote down a number for me. He said I would need that number to get a new key.

Yesterday, my brother and me took off and went to his cottage. Drunk, yeah, fell into the lake off his boat. Key FOB in my pocket. Idiot, that's me. Man was I happy the bike started this morning.

I still wonder why Liz put's up with my crap. Must be the big d**k.

Like Heather, the dealer wrote down the key numbers. A "spare" costs about $50.00 and you are stuck going through the dealer. Good Luck

Although I still have my original keys, I did have 2 spares made because I know sooner or later one of the factory keys is going to go missing. I too had to order them from my purchasing dealer, but the two keys I got were only about $15.00 for the pair, they were pretty cheap. The only thing was that they did not have the fancy black rubber on the key, just a bare key, don't care, it still works.

Wow. $50 or $15. I had the stealer order an extra, and now I'm wondering what it's going to cost. Any thoughts on why some are so expensive? Security system chip in some keys?

This board rules by the way.

There should be a 4 digit code for your key on a little plastic tag that attached the 2 keys together will look like 1234HD. For just the standard keys yeah $15 for 2 sounds right. OR if you want to get fancy they offer specialized keys such as this or my favorite. for about $60. If you don't know what your code is or can't find it on any paperwork the dealer MIGHT be able to get the information for you but I doubt it.

I went to a key shop with my barrel keys (for the scoot and a disk lock) and had keys made for a buck and a half each!

Dresser typr rides: any barrle HD ignition key willopen any panel type gas door...stick a spare key in there! (I also wired one inside my faring)

You doNOT ave to get a key made at HD...any decent key shop can make them (barrel keys).
