Awareness ride issues.....http://qconline.com/archives/qco/display.php?id=333850&query=
Every year we have an awareness ride that goes throough a few towns in the area. The ride is structured like a parade, and we usually have somewhere between 2000-4000 bikes. This year, as the article indicates, we have lost all citywide support for the ride. You can read the article, and judge for yourself. They want us to navigate 4000 bikes through town, stopping at lights and signs all the way. Seems funny to me that they block traffic for the St. Patricks day parade (re: drunk fest) but deny bikers the opportunity to make a presence in the community, and advocate for ourselves...for one or two hours...one day a year.

I don't know much about that ride, but I can tell you after reading 76 comments that followed the article, its SCAREY what some people think about bikes.

All I can say is unf#$cknbelievable!! I would write/phone/e-mail all of the local officials and tell them I am a biker and a voter and so are the thousands who participate in this ride. Get the local media involved. I just love some of the comments below the article.

Started reading and went immediately to the "post a comment" section. I DID and I hope everybody who can read, reads it. I cannot believe the nerve of some people. I won't recite my banter here but if you get the chance and care to, read it. What a bunch of backward a$$, inbred, SOBs.

Looks like the Moline cityboard heard the voices of the bikersI watched the RI city meeting on Monday night and the mayor thought the cities should stick together and help the awareness ride, it's all good now.[sm=biker2.gif]
