I don't think lane splitting will ever really catch on and will never be accepted (legal or not) by the cage drivers. I personally don't lane split because of the ignorant reactions by the cagers. I want to, but, injury or worse is not worth it. BTW, lived in Japan 8 years. Motorcycles were expected and encouraged to lane split to get ahead of the traffic. There was even about a 10 ft wide strip across all lanes at each traffic light designated "for motorcycles only". A bike or scooter was the best way to get around in the city.

i do that all the time, just because you are stuck in traffic doesn't mean i need to be, some people just cant stand seeing a motorcycle get through traffic
the thing i would be most concerned about would be stayin out of Plano

It's such an alien concept for me to get on my bike and not filter traffic (What we call splitting lanes in the Uk) I don't drive just ride all year, and I'll admit the Dyna isn't the most agile bike in the world to do it on, Ive never had problems with it. Ontop of that our roads are much windier/narrower than yours. I'd have thought the States was perfect for it.
