1000 Mile Service Due, Can I delay?
#12
I've only bought one new Harley and that was in 2003. I rode it home from dealer and it never returned. I changed the oil after break in and changed it again at 1000 miles. Everything else was in top shape and no need to tamper with anything. I rode it for 8 years and never did a thing but change fluids and adjust the clutch cable a few times. It had 40k mikes when I sold it and had never been to a dealer for service or anything done to it other than fluid changes. If I ever buy another new bike I most likely will take the same path again.

14 FXDL has exactly 1000 miles on it and now due for 1000 service. I am planning a 200 mile trip this weekend and not sure if I can get that service done in time. Has anyone ran the ODO up to 1200-1500 miles before the 1000 service?
Otherwise I need to somehow get bike in or cancel the ride.

Should be no problem. Just check your oil yourself, and top off if necessary. Not unusual to use a little oil during break in. In addition to fluids, your dealer wants to go over your bike, checking lots of little things. They know what to look for, as deal with this every day.
As you ride, make note of anything that seems amiss. Check gas mileage, straight steering, no pulsing in brakes, etc. Mention anything you might have concerns when you take it in.
Should be no warranty issue.
I would make the phone call, just to be sure, and enjoy your trip.
Our local dealership has a quickie service for things like this. Usually get you in and out within an hour unless something comes up.

Ya will be fine. I called to make an appointment for my 1k at about 800 miles, and they were so booked my bike was about 1600 before they could see me. Shouldn't be an issue as long as you check your oil and air in tires before you head out.

geez, there are always the "you can't do it yourself?" guys, as if to put someone down for not doing so . . . Considering that the OP is in NY it's possible he lives in an apartment in the city and doesn't have a place to service his own bike.
