I,m on the fence! Are the HD heated grips worth the money? I,ve had heated grips in the past on other make bikes and found thst they did a great job warming your palms but did little for the fingertips
Are the HD heated grips worth investing in?

 

I invested in a pair of heated gloves instead of grips for that reason since my Road King does not protect the hands from the wind. I have riding in temperatures down to 28 degrees and keeps them fairly warm, but the thumbs do get a little bit hot.

 

Although I've never had either, if I had to pick, I'd go with the gloves too. But, I just can't see paying that much, since I don't ride in the cold much and it doesn't that cold here.

 

Go with the gloves & don't look back !

 

Yup, GLOVES rather than grips, are the way to go.

BTW: I'm not sure what gloves DanRC is using, but so far, my Gerbings T5's have kept my hands warm in temps down to 8 degrees. At 40 mph, that's -18 degrees wind chill.

 

Just thought of something! what do you think about just inserting "hot hands" in your gloves?

 

I have the heated grips that come standard on the Ultra. I think they work great, even with non-insulated gloves. But the fairing helps block the wind.
My wife rides a Sportster. She tried the hand warmers. It works to keep your palms warm but does little for the finger tips.

 

I know for a fact that it's a PITA. They take up room, don't warm the whole hand & fingers, and have to be changed often on long rides.

 

The Limited is the first bike I've had w/ heated grips, and I really like them for those tweener days when it's not too cold but it is cool. That said if they didn't come already installed on the bike I too would go w/ the heated gloves. They work much better at whole hand warming.

 

I've had heated grips on my last two bikes and would never go back to annoying gloves. First off, I rarely ride below freezing temps but for temps 30˚- 45˚, the grips along with light pair of lined leather gloves work great. The palms heat up nice and toasty, and the heat circulates and gets trapped in the gloves warming the entire hand. It's there when you need them. No need to put on bulky gloves with wires. FWIW, i did use the same set up for a 30 min ride last winter when it was about 19˚ and again nice warm hands.

If you're planning on a lot of cold weather riding, I'd suggest a heated vest to wear under your jacket.
