Nokia’s Here maps – now available on Samsung Galaxy & Windows Phones
So, what’s the BIG Deal?
Unlike Google Maps and iOS Maps, no data connection is required for GPS usage. Maps are preloaded and stored on the phone.
That means no data usage, and no worries about travel through areas with no cell coverage.
You pre-download and store the desired map set on the phone and then it functions like a standalone GPS.
The entire US map is 4.7GB and can be stored on the ext-SD card.
Here Maps is available from Samsung's Play Store or can be downloaded here: http://here.com/download/?lang=en-US

I'll give that a try, although I do the same with Google Maps.
While on WiFi connection I download the maps for the planned route and then just use the voice prompts. https://support.google.com/gmm/answer/3273567?hl=en

It can only pre-load and remember a section or piece of a map, like for a (relatively short) route you're planning in advance.
Nokia Here allows you to have a complete map set(s) stored on the phone, just like you would have using a Garmin, Tom-Tom, etc. There is no need to go online and pre-load the next piece of a map each time you stop. Map sets, basically by country, are pre-loaded just like you do when you setup a regular GPS.
