Default Fairing painting

I want to have my fairing painted the same as my denim black Fat Bob, right now its the stock gloss black color as shipped from Memphis Shades.
Has anyone self painted their fairing with just a rattle can - or is it just best served to bite the bullet and have the a shop do it?

If you don't want to bite the bullet may I suggest PlastiDip. You could do your fairing with two cans for under $20. Looks amazingly close to the black denim. And if you don't like it, just peel it off the fairing with no harm to the paint below.

Here is my RK, I did the entire bike with black PlastiDip over the stock vivid black. Just an option.

And here is my detachable fairing with a two tone PlastiDip job...but that is another whole story.

And yes it peels off!

Painted my fairing with Plasti-dip, works wonders with the denim black! Less than 10 bucks

I painted a Memphis shades in a good imitation of denim black with a rattle can, back in June.

Went to the auto parts store and got a can of black primer and a can of satin clearcoat for wheels and some sandpaper. The primer is my color coat - no need for black on black,. Came out looking good. Not hard at all. Thousands of miles later, the fairing still looks good.

I just painted my Dougz fairing with the Plastidip. Used maybe 3/4th of a can and it came out great. This is in addition to the horn, headlight rings and speedo cover that Ive already done in dip. Everything matches the denim really well. Whats really nice about it is its easy to touch up if a rock puts a ding it it or something.

I did the rattle can. Educate yourself on good prep work and have at it.

That plasti dip stuff looks intriguing. I'd like to do my tank, and rear fender. Would go well with my wheels once I get them powder coated.

The plasti dip stuff works pretty good but plan on having to re-do it every year. You can get very good results with a rattle can if you do the right prep work and spray in a controlled area.

A word of warning if you plastidip your tank. Gas with eat it up. Get any drips on it and it discolors. Just an FYI.
