The evolution of my FXR2
I’ve always had a dedicated thread for each bike so rather then pile on other threads I’ll just consolidate here.
Just got home, 1999 FXR2 w/32k miles
First steps, strip off the windshield. Looks better already.
Next, convert giant signals to modern bullets, with Custom Dynamics Probeam inserts and tail. Had a cheap LED headlight I threw in until I decide to spend on a JW Speaker adaptive.
Next, Corbin Wall seat, 8” straight riser, Burly Brand drag bar and Bung King crash bar.
Vented blowby to a DK Customs catch can
Replaced CPS due to impending failure and (not shown) replaced stator and voltage regulator due to melted connector on primary.
Replacing dim idiot lights with LED’s. Built harness, just waiting on pins for connector under instrument console. Getting them Friday. (Sanded led driver to smooth out light distribution-was a little point bright before)
Picked up incandescent replacement lights from Dennis Kirk, gutted them and inserted the LED’s. Sealed with black hot melt glue.
Cheap Chinese copies are not perfectly aligned. Oh well.
Done for now
To be continued…

Found a NOS Thunderstar wheel at a dealer in TN, still unopened. Score! Flushed out 1999 vintage grease out of the bearings, replaced with fresh Bel Ray and put on Pirelli Night Dragons. It’s a different bike…
Lost the sissy bar. Rebuilt forks with Racetech Springs setup for my fat ***, and Cartridge emulators. Huge, I mean tremendous improvement. Add some Ohlins HD756’s. Those with the Pirelli tires and it handles like it’s on rails. Seriously amazing. It’s like I think where to go, and it goes effortlessly.
Ordered a Superbrace but it doesn’t fit. For some reason it doesn’t clamp around the left fork tube. Sent them an email asking for an exchange. Haven’t heard back.
Brakes are next. More to come…

They are factory bullets. A shop had a bunch of used parts and I fished out 4 nice ones. Same threads, they just screw in, in place of the originals.
