Here are a couple of photos that I took of my 1990 FXRS-Conv earlier today on a shake down ride. I'm going to be doing a few shake down rides over the next couple of weeks to make sure the bike is ready for a Road Trip to Laughlin at the end of the month to meet up with some of my Riding Buddy's. The bike hasn't run in about 10 years. It belonged to a friend of mine who let me have it a couple of years ago. Bike needed a lot of work and my buddy decided that he didn't want to deal with it and made me a deal that I couldn't refuse. The original motor needed some work, base gaskets leaked and the head gasket on the rear cylinder was leaking. My original plan was to do a complete top end rebuild, performance head rebuild, bore the cylinders and install higher compression pistons, and add a new cam and lifters. About a year ago I picked up one of those after market choppers that were real popular in the late 1990's early 2000's, got the bike real cheap. I was able to pull the 88CI S&S Evo Motor and put it in this bike cheaper than I could have rebuilt the top end of the old motor. Don't worry, I have the orig motor on a stand in my garage, it ain't going anywhere. The swing arm was rebuilt with a CCE Spherical Bearing Kit and a new rear belt. Other than changing the seat and adding a Thunder header the rest of the bike is pretty much stock. i have a pair of removable locking saddle bags and a new windshield that I need to install. The bike runs real strong. Looking forward to putting a lot of miles on this bike.

Thanks for the complement Winn, the bike is coming along but still has a ways to go before I have it where I want it. The paint isn't bad for a 33 year old bike, but it is far from pristine. I used a real fine rubbing compound and was able to get the paint to look presentable but it still has nicks and scratches and the clear coat on the rear fender is toast, it looks better in the photos but in person it is really a 10-15 footer. There was also a lot of rust and corrosion that I am working on, the primary case, rocker boxes and all of the aluminum parts looked pretty bad when I first got it. I used a cutting wheel on my buffer to remove most of the corrosion, then gave it a quick buff. I'll probably re-do the primary in the future, but for right now it's ok. I still have to pull off the fender struts, and lower legs and triple trees on the front end. I also need to re-do the the black paint on the handle bar controls and break calipers. I'm enjoying working on this old machine and bring it back to life.
