Default How do I get wheel bearings out of the wheel

I have 1 1999 wide glide 16 inch rear wheel and I am trying to get the bearings out. I cut out the oil seal and tried to pull the bearing out with my finger . It will move around but will not come out of the wheel. How do I get the bearing out of the wheel?

I am trying to remove the bearing in order to gain some experience for replacing bearings and races. I have ordered a 2002 Black Thunderstar wheel that has the sealed bearings. I want to figure out how to replace the sealed bearings with timken bearings so I can use the 1999 3/4 axle currently on my wide glide soon after the thinderstar wheel arrives. I know I will have to also purchase a rotor.

Thanks for your help.

Haywood.

Use a socket that is smaller than the hub and larger than the bearing race and tap it out from the opposite side like recross said.

I haven't heard of bearings not coming out, mine fall out. The first post and second is what I would do also. The Bearing race is another story. You need a special tool to pound that puppy out. They cost around 60 bucks. If you going to do it more than once might as well spring for the tool because if the stealers going take them out for you, you'll probably pay for the tool in labor, maybe more!

I have never used any special tool to remove bearing races. From the oposite side use a flut punch and tap around the edges until it comes out. When re-installingput the race in the freezer overnight it willl help a lot getting the new one in ...Mark...

Not sure of the year involved , but right around your year model HD went to a sealed bearing and they have to be pressed in/out . The dealer claims pressing the bearing out stresses them and once removed they need to be replaced .
