Default Leak from top of fork tube

I am noticing some fluid on the top of my fork tube near the upper triple tree. There is not much fluid, but it should not be happening. Any thoughts on how to correct this issue?

Here is a picture of the location of the leak -- right at the head of the arrow tip.

happend on my bike 99 fxdwg. a friend of mine said i needed to disassemble the forks and replace the o-ring. i just loosened the pinch bolts and twisted the tube and the leak stopped.that was 4 years ago. no more leak.

Thanks for the post. Just noticed the same thing on mine, same location too. The cap bolts seem tight but there appears to be fork fluid dripping down the left tube b/w the triple trees. I'm guessing that I'll have to loosen the top triple tree and tighten the cap further. There's an O Ring under that fork plug in my model that may be the culprit but I have no idea what could have caused it to start leaking after all this time.

Default O-Ring

When your forks go into compression the air chamber is compressed called an air spring. If you have an air leak the air escapes and the oil is expelled out of the air leak and your fork suspension does not work. Replace the O-Ring HD#: 45733-48 on top of the (triple tree/BOLT fork ALL) 45419-80 , OIL SEAL fork bracket bolt ALL $0.75/each. On conversions that I do I increase the oil height and also use Teflon tape around the bolt threads as the shown fork tube bolt (shown that threads into the fork tube) already has an O-Ring around it to prevent air leakage on a compression stroke.

Bolt is here that goes through the triple tree and into your fork tube threaded bolt.

Thanks Howard, The teflon tape is an excellent idea ( and I wouldn't have thought of it!) It's become a significant leak recently.

I'll be attempting the fix by installing the new oring, bolt, and tape.
