Polished Fork Sliders
Hey guys,
Just finished the stripping, sanding, and polishing process on the stock fork sliders on my '08 FXDC. All-in-all the process was pretty straight forward, but time consuming.
I started with Aircraft Stripper to get the clear coat to bubble up. This stuff is fantastic, and allows you to just wipe off the clear coat. Once that was all wiped off, I started with 800 grit and gave everything a once-over, followed by 1,000 and 1,500 grit before polishing with Mothers Mag and Aluminum and a 6 inch orbital buffer.
The process took a total of 7 hours (approximately) as I did some experimenting with sanding approaches and polishing applications. Probably could have done it in 4 hours following the method above strictly. Love the new look of the polished aluminum adjacent to the forks and chrome dust covers.
