Default Jiffy Stand Issue

Bought a 2007 XL883L and then found out that the jiffy stand won't remain down when the bike is brought to an upright position. Suddenly, the stand pops up when least expected and then won't stay down when trying to put the stand back down. I had the dealer replace the spring but that did not fix the problem. They're going to replace the the stand but I was wondering if anyone else had this issue and if so, what did you do about it?

TIA

Huh? Never had a problem after getting used to the operation. The jiffy stand only locks when weighted in the full forward position. Then it pushes in past a retaining notch and gets locked. When unweighted the spring pulls it back out of the notch so it retracts automatically - jiffy, eh :-). First check the stand swings full forward and hold it there with your toe as you lean the bike over. Some lube every now and then helps keep the stand moving free. I can't imagine what else could mess up the very simple mechanism, unless the bike was dropped and something got bent. The spring should last forever. Sorry if this sounds too basic but I have a hard time understanding the issue. Cheers, RR
