Front Brakes for '86 FLHT
I have a 1986 FLHT. I switched out the front factory mag for a factory HD Laced Rim that is supposed to be the correct fittment for that year. I decided that after 25 years the front brakes could use some updating so at the same time I puchased a pair of Russel 11-1/2" floating rotors and installed them on the laced rim. My goal is to upgrade to PM 6 piston calipers as well but right now I am a little short of cash to get that accomplished.
I now have the laced wheel with the new rotors installed on the bike and the wheel spins but on the left side there is less than 010" clearance between the circular free float bolts on the rotor and the bottom edge of the factory single piston caliper. Right side has more than 1/2" clearance.
Can anyone tell me if I go ahead and pop for the PM 6 piston calipers will I still have the clearance problem on the left side? Has anyone else tried this combination of wheel, caliper and rotors before?
I called Russel's (Edelbrock)Tech line and they had no clue except to assure me that the rotors I purchased were correct for that model and year.
Thanks;
