this is what i was seeking
So it sounds like it's not going to make a noticeable difference as to whether or not the forks are extended or compressed then...
So there's not really a right way and a wrong way here...

I've been riding for over 40 years and serviced forks quite a few times. It is only my Glide's air forks that have ever made me wonder about the air left in them! I bet very few owners even think about it as they tighten the fork caps up and drop the bike onto its wheels. Ride on.......
