Throttle Cable Adjustment

Throttle Cable Adjustment
When adjusting your throttle cable, you should not have very noticable play in the throttle, just enough to keep the cables from binding from being too tight, but you have to check with the engine running and turn the bars full left and right to see if the speed increases from being too tight. Make sure that the throttle grip hits the stop inside just before the carb or throttle body(FI) hits the stop. What this does is not stretch the cable on full throttle, the stop in the grip stops before the carb hits full open. What I usually do is adjust it real close, then with the engine off, advance the grip to full throttle and hold it there, now back off (loosen) the cable adjuster and feel the throttle on the carb till it just misses full open by a hair. You don't want to stretch the cable every time you hit the stop or the barrel end will come off and leave you stranded. After you get this adjustment done , then you take the slack out of the return cable, remember, you don't want these two cables too tight or the throttle will bind.
