Default DOT 4 shelf life...really?

Getting some rain tomorrow so I was going to bleed brakes. I always take a glance at the maintenance manual steps before doing anything--even if I've done it before. Anyway, in the section on bleeding I finally notice this listed as one of the several compulsary warnings/cautions/notes listed at the top of each procedure:

IMPORTANT NOTE
The shelf life of a bottle of unopened DOT 4 brake fluid is
one year. The shelf life of an uncontaminated bottle that
has been opened and then resealed is one week.

Huh? You guys follow this guide and pitch unused brake fluid? I didn't (cars or bikes), but will start if the fluid is really that easily contaminated. I recap right away so no dust or moisture gets to it.

If that was the case ,what is the differance between a resealed bottle or a resealed mastercylinder?Dot 5 is a silicone brake fluid.

Excellent point! I wish I would have thought of that...
