Default LOWERING 2009 FLHT - experiences?

Hi,

Looking for hands- on experiences here.

Thinking about lowering the rear 1" ( will probably leave front end as it is- I am thinking that stock rear height will be restored for any long trips.)

Options:

Lowering blocks - change shock angle slightly, retain full travel

12" ( FLHX style) shocks, retain shock angle, shorter travel

I already notice occasional bottoming out with the stock shocks, my Pal with the FLHX tells me that he is unhappy with the harsh ride at times.

I have experience with severely lowered FXR. My old FLHT had lowering blocks on it when purchased, I removed for better clearance and cornering.

I already know that handling is reduced- I figure it's gonna run me about $75 either way to do this change and I can always reverse it if unhappy.

So hands-on experiences from those who have already been there would be appreciated.

That'll help me to decide which method, and if you have parts for sale, let me know.

Thanks, Mike

I have a 2010 ultra
rear I went with the progressive 940 shock 1 inch lower and better ride than stock air ride,
front I went with progressive dropin kit!! At first I thought they sucked, rode rougher than hell, then I started reading on what fork oil everybody used HMMM I used the harley screamin eagle fork oil. Drained it went back to stock harley Type E fluid
rides just like it did before it was lowered !!!

I suggest you go to the Touring forum and browse the threads there on lowering bikes. If you already suffer occasional bottoming out with your stock shocks you might consider getting quality custom shocks that can both lower your bike and stop it bottoming out!

my experiences with "performance shocks" in the past, showed me that these shocks were indeed superior for sport riding, but poor ride quality for everyday riding.
Harsh, jarring, come to mind.
I really like the stock style air shocks -for my typical style of riding on the bagger.
I'm going to keep an eye out for a bargain on the revalved FLHX style shocks

Mike, I have custom Ohlins shocks on my Glide, built and supplied by HDF sponsor Motorcycle Metal, and for the first time in all my thirty odd years of riding Harleys I now have a bike that handles extremely well and does NOT bottom out!

IMHO 'bargain' and ride quality do not normally belong in the same paragraph!
