Default Looking for tires

Where is the best place to buy tires and what brand? I have an 82 Sportster that has MT90-16 on the back and MJ90-19 on the front, looking to replace both. Do all manufacturers use the same tire sizes? I was looking at Dunlop and they use D402 for the rear.

Dunlop has a new tire, Elite 3, and it should be available in sizes for your bike. If not, then get the 491 Elite II tires. I usually get better service from the 491s than the 401/402 series. Metzeler and Avon are another couple brands that many folks like.

I looked on Ebay for the Dunlop tires, I see a lot listed for the rear (MT90-16) but not the front (MJ90-19). I see MM90-19 listed. What do the letters stand for? Is there a difference between MJ and MM?

Alpha numeric system - MJ90 = 2.75 - 3.00 inch width
MM90 = 3.25 - 3.50 inch width

If you buy tires off the internet, are you mounting and balancing them yourself? If not, make sure you have a place that will do it as many shops won't mount/balance tires not purchased from them. Here's a couple tire joints that have a good selection and very low prices:

I've mounted tires before but never thought about balancing. Thanks for the info.
