I am considering purchasing a 1978 Shovel but I am having trouble with the Vin number. Posted on the neck and right case are the same numbers but both lack the last digit. the ninth, Ends with "H" and start with a "7J" witch should identify the model but i can find nothing with that prefix. Is their something wrong? Doesn't appear to be tampered with and looks like original stamping, Help??

 

The VIN sequence changed sometime in the 70's from I believe a 15 number sequence to the current 17 number. Could that be throwing you off?

I have a 77 XLCR - 1000 with the vin # of 7F01101H7 im looking for month production # of that month and year

 

does the frame number match the title? AMF had a tough time getting their numbers strait in the 70's, they are all over, they have even found as many as 4 different bikes with the same VIN numbers from the factory.
