I had a real scare tonight....wobble!!!???
I have been noticing a little sort of wobble here and there it seems as though it is in the front end. Every time i go into my dealer with something they tell me that it is the normal operation of the bike....later they find that they were wrong...but that is not remembered...but because of this i have left it alone in case it is another one of those so-called normal operations of the bike....
Surely to go this is not normal!!!!
I go out on the freeway for the first time since my bike has been in for some repairs due to an insurance claim....the bike was knocked over...i took that opportunity to have new handlbars put on and my second service was due.
So today I go out on the freeway and take the bike up to approx 70 mph and let off the gas....a wobble develops....a keep off the gas hoping that the wobble will stop.....it gets worse....to the point i was getting worried.....I applied the brakes to get to a very slow speed and finally the wobble was gone....i down shifted and the wobble was gone!!!
Anybody have any ideas what the hell that could have been.
I noticed the same thing at slower speeds but I had just put my windsheild back on and thought that maybe that was it??? Cuz I am told that I am just too fussy and stuff. This was not a slight thing at all this was very scarry .....can anyone tell me what that might be so when i go into the dealership I can hopefully point them in the right direction if they tell me that is normal....it doesn't happen at acceleration...only deceleration!!!! AAAARRRHHHHH

RE: I had a real scare tonight....wobble!!!???
A couple of things that come to my mind:
1) Tire pressure too low
2) Tire out of balance (or bent rim)
3) Cupping on front tire
4) Worn head bearings (damaged during drop?)
5) Improper torque on triple tree clamp bolt
My other bike exhibits this behavior when the front tire gets worn out (cupping).
Good luck,
J

JMPX offered several good things to check. There are also many posts recommending installation of a suspension stabilization device. Here's a link to one that gets good reviews.

I'm not saying this will fix the problem, but it is interesting reading.

And Baga is the winner!!!!
That is exactly what the problem was. I had just had my second service...the spokes were checked one week earlier, yet it was threee spokes on the rear wheel that were giving me the problem and it was a bad problem.
Sad thing is the wobble was very dangerous...i told the staff at the shop that is was....they as usual did not listen to me or believe me or take me seriously...the young tech that took the bike out was a bit shook up when he came back from testing it. I had told them that the wobble was when i let off the acceleration...but he accellerated up to 80 mph trying to find the wobble that could have been found at a much slower speed!!! Well, at least he did'nt hurt himslef or the bike!
If only people would listen!!

The first thing I would do is get rid of the Spoked Wheels!!!! I have known of lots of people who have problems with spokes. The owner of the Dealer I deal with had a bad experience with spokes on his Ultra and said he will never have them again.

I got rid of my spoked wheels a few weeks ago. I had a flat on the rear that totally trashed the tub, and I figure the tire got damaged too! I later noticed that my bike started to feel loose. I found several spokes had loosened up. That is when I decided to change the wheels. I went with the stock alloy wheels and put new rubber on both ends. The bike is now tight again!

My bike, 2005 Road King Classic with 30K miles, developed the wobble esp. after rounding a curve. Three broken spokes on the rear. All spokes attached to the right side were loose. NOrmal riding. Regular maintenance. We've hit a few rough places in the road, but never any azz launching holes. Has anybody gotten Harley to fix this under warranty? Spoked wheels should never do this unless they are put under considerable strain. I have a 1967 Trimph I've owned for 37 years and I've never had a problem like this.
