Default tire pressure

Seems as though I am going thru rear tires pretty quick. I am usingdunlap elite 3 fromt and rear and the pressures are 40 in the rear and 36 in the front. Most of my riding is 2 up with my wife. The rear tire is about done with 8k on it. Is this about rite for this tire. Should I figure the tire pressure after We have rode for awhile to adjust for the temp or just set it at a preset limit . I would think that a preset limit would overinflate the tire at some point. any thoughts on this subject?

At around 10,000 miles I start looking to replace my rear tire,as far as the front goes I usually will put on two rear tires to one front tire. I also maintain my tire presure and try to stay on paved roads so to me this wear is normal.
