Sagging kick-stand
Hey guys, my kickstand is giving me some problems. While riding the kickstand wobbles and does not sit against the primary cover. When leaning into left hand turns, it ends up scraping on the ground. I tried using a shorter spring, but for whatever reason, it won't sit still.
Has anyone had this problem? Is there a way to adjust the kickstand or should I just buy a new one?

RE: Sagging kick-stand
OK, FXST, a Sloptail, that is. Your bike has the best designed factory kickstand. The pivot area is designed to allow the stand to move relative to the bike. That means when you kick the stand down it is in one position, and when you put the weight of the bike on it, it moves and allows the tab bolted to the top of the stand to slide into the mount, locking the stand so the bike can't fall by being moved.
If it is not coming up against the bike when up, then either the spring is shot, or something is bent. Ditto for drooping when you are riding. Check the stand against a known good one, check the locking tab bolted to the top to make sure it isn't missing or loose or installed backwards, check the piece the stand pivots in to make sure all 4 bolts are tight, and check the bracket that mounts to the frame. 2 of the bracket mountinf bolts are beneath the pivot piece.

I had a 91 FXSTC that developed a wobbly kickstand. It turns out the the kickdtand is bolted to an intermediate mount that is hidden by the kickstand. The bolts holding the intermediate mount to the frame had worked loose and one was broken. Support your bike upright, remove both pieces, replace ALL of the bolts.
