Default Rear brake problem on 95 roadking

Hello all......Just got finished putting new brake pads on the rear of my 95 roadking and i am getting an awful lot of brake drag with the new pads. I havent taken it down the road yet but they are really tight. I had to sand the new pad surfaces down to even get the caliper to go down on the rotor, and that was after i had pushed the caliper piston all the way back in. Even after all that the rear wheel is still very tight. It will turn but it is pretty tight. Is this normal?? Anyone out there ever had this problem before?? The front pads were no problem but the rear is drivin me freakin nuts!!! SOMEBODY OUT THERE HELP!!!!!!!!!!!

Are the new brake pads OEM or aftermarket pads? How much thicker are they than the old pads that you removed? Unless the new ones are substantially thicker than the old ones, you shouldn't be having any issues. Are the metal retainer clips in the caliper seated properly? Might want to tear it down and take a look at the pads, then reassemble paying close attention to how the retainer clips are seated.

Just saw the date on this....

It sounds like the pistons in the calliper need to be cleaned by extending them to do it. They may be hanging up and not returning which would give you exactly what you describe.

Use some brake clean and a shoe lace to clean the pistons like shown here.
