Question 2002 FXST Adding 6 deg. Raked Trees??

I've been to several bike shows and have talked to Fxst and Deuce owners that were showing their street ridden customs. Several of which had installed 5-7 deg. tripple trees and 2-3" over stock upper tubes. (I love the look the additional rake adds to the stock softail stance.)

My questions to all of them was, "Did the addition of the additonal rake, (5-7 degrees), adversely affect handling, particularly high speed, ie; tank slap and/or general instability?" They all responded "no". Several of the guys I spoke with said that they had the raked trees installed by Indys and were told that "there would be no affect to handling as the rake and trail dimensions were not adversely affected to the point of poor handling in combination with the stock factory rake of 35 deg.," (on the Fxst, for example.)

I've often used the various site provided rake and trail calculators, (and unless I'm using them wrong), the combinations I've mentioned, (5-7 deg. with 2-3" over tubes), always produces a negative R/T number.

Has anyone made this mod, and can it be done successfully and safely?

I too am looking to lengthen my front end, 2005 FXST, but have been told that going more than 5 degrees with a 4" overstock tube length will put it in the "danger zone". Hope someone can confirm...

The 6" over in my opinion is excessive on a stock neck frame. I'm looking to go to 6 deg trees and 2-3" over. According to the guys I've discussed this with, 6 deg. and 2" over seems to work. Trying to get a confirmation from someone in here that has done this mod. I'm trying to get a little pro street look without having to have the neck cut and raked..

I've toyed with the idea of doing this to mine in the future as well.

Do a search for a rake and trail calculator, measure yours up and see where it fits in. It's fairly simple. There is a reason for the recommendations. Too much lets the bike wander and the front feels heavy at low speeds.
